Trent is Back! Posted On: 5/29/2010
I’ve always appreciated the opportunity Trent’s departure afforded me. Initially the leadership challenges were extensive, over staffing, finances etc. It took months and months to get the finances and personal straight. I believe WDE now has the finest leadership team in any department of education. The interest in this race continues to grow!

DC Trip Posted On: 1/17/2010

I had a unique opportunity to visit with the U.S. Secretary of Education and his staff as a result of our work on what needs to be changed in NCLB . . . We had forwarded our draft work to one of Sen. Enzi`s staffers who forwarded it to one of the Secretary`s staff. Tim Lockwood and I spent about two hours discussing both the changes that need to occur to the law and the impact the law has/will have on the National Standards, National Assessment effort and how they must be integrated. There were only five State Superintendents invited . . . I was the only representative for the Western States.
I continue to believe that we need to stay engaged in national education issues – we need to continue to influence the new law, standards and assessment.
